As some of you might know, Mia Kirshner spent almost a month in Malawi in December, supervising the I Live Here Foundation projects within Kachere Prison.
Here’s Mia’s message that she posted on her Facebook:
This is why I care
Hello everyone. I just got back from Malawi several days ago after a month long trip to see how the ILH projects are going within Kachere Prison. Lots of good stuff. That said, it will be a long road to see lasting change in and ILH is dedicated to see through long term change that will help Malawi thrive.
The only way forward is through the belief that Education is the freedom we all deserve and that permaculture as our ethos allows us to help Malawi but create systems of self-reliance.
I am hoping that you can join me: I am hoping to raise $2500.00 for my birthday this year to pay for teachers salaries in order to provide the kids with the best education possible. I want these kids to have a shot at going to university. I want them to know that education is the way to freedom – Kachere has never had a school before. Because of this milestone, I want to make sure ILH does this as well as we possibly can. What do you think? Can you help me get to this goal?

Of course, some can might that there’re a lot of worthy causes and what is so special about this one; others might say that they had already donated to a charity this year; some might say that the economy is still pretty bad and they can’t help much. All of these things are true but think about it…nobody asks you to give away all your life savings.
Mia herself once said, “Little goes a long way.” Even if you can only help with $1, $5 or $10, it’s already a big help to this wonderful organization that is trying to do so much good for the children in Malawi. Mia’s birthday is on January 25, so let’s help Mia to get her birthday wish and raise $2,500 for her educational project.
