Interview with Stamie Karakasidis and Tracy Ryerson at L9 – November 2011
L-word: I get my news from twitter too. Here’s another question for Stamie. A lot of your jokes come from your personal life. What’s easier: to laugh at yourself or make fun of others?
Stamie: I feel more comfortable making fun of myself. I think, growing up when you have a sense of humor, you make fun of others because that’s the easy thing to do. I don’t feel right making fun of others, unless they are my kids (laughing). I’m not making fun, really. It’s so hard being a parent that if you make it funny, it makes everything a lot easier, so I prefer to make fun of my life. That’s all I can write about.
A lot of comics can write about the news and stuff and for me, I write about what makes my blood pump faster through my veins and that’s my life. Unless I read something and I’ll be like, “Oh my God,” and it really affects me but that takes so much to happen. My son keeps peeing on a toilet seat and I’m going to write a joke about that. It’s all about my life. It’s all about my family.
L-word: Do you have any DVD’s of your stand-up comedy available?
Stamie: Right now they can see videos on YouTube and on my Facebook fan page there’s YouTube link and they can just look there. I’m planning on doing one within the next year or maybe an mp3 on-line that they can download. I’m planning to do something, I just don’t know exactly when.
L-word: “A Night with Stamie,” something like that.
Tracy: “A Night You’ll Never Forget.”
L-word: “A Night You Want to Forget but Never Will.”
Tracy: (laughing) Yeah, that’s even better.
Stamie: Yeah, that sounds good. You’ll remember that, will you?
