L9 Convention in Birmingham – November 11-13, 2011
L9 was the 9th convention that I had attended in the last six years. Some friends often ask me why I went to each and every one of them when all conventions seem to be the same. Well, for me they were all different and unique in their own way. Of course, the schedules are the same and many guests had attended several times, but each convention held a different meaning for me and brought out different feelings.
Out of all the conventions I attended, three of them were the most memorable to me. L1 – because it was my first convention and I was just a fan, attending it for fun. L5 – because it was all about TiBette, my favorite couple on the show. That convention brought to us a wonderful Bette and Tina reunion and also helped many of the die-hard fans to deal with the fact that the show was going to end. And finally, L9 – because it was my last convention and I was able to relax more, spent more time with my friends, and attended an absolutely fabulous Heather Peace gig at the Glee Club.
L9 guests included old-timers Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig (Alice and Shane from The L Word); second-time attendees and everyone’s favorite Tracy Ryerson and Stamie Karakasidis (The Real L Word), and Heather Peace (Lip Service); and newbies Elisabeth Keener and Alicia Willis (Dawn Denbo and her lover Cindi from The L Word), and Gabrielle Christian (Spencer from South of Nowhere).
All the guests admitted at one time or the other that they had a fabulous time at the convention and the Q&A sessions were really entertaining and hilarious, especially when Heather Peace and Stamie and Tracy were on stage.
