Kate was on Three Rivers but didn’t know that Janina Gavankar was on it as well because they didn’t have the same scenes together. She only found out after the show ended when she watched that episode and said, “Oh look, there’s Janina.”
Kate wanted to be a violin maker like her father but she was also around actors a lot growing up so she ended up going to New York to do a 2-year drama program. Leisha and she went to the same drama school but at different times. Leisha said that she always wanted to be an actress. Growing up she loved to sing and dance and always performed in some school musicals, though often it was to get out of English and Math classes. Leisha’s other passion is being a painter. Kate would be a chef and own her own restaurant.

They both praised Mia Kirshner for her performance as Jenny. They said that she is such an incredible actress to handle all the outrageous things that sometimes were written for her character. She really cared about the role.
The cast of The L Word was very tight and they were all like family or sisters and sometimes the love scenes between them were awkward because it was like making out with your best friend or sister.
“Jaws” is Kate’s favorite movie and she can quote every line and dialog from it with each pause and beat. And Kate actually demonstrated it and it was pretty awesome.
In August a few of the cast members got together in LA to film a special reunion video for an upcoming release of The L Word complete series. The cast included Ilene, Jennifer, Laurel, Kate, Erin, Eric Mabius and Leisha. It was a first time that so many of them got together and it was fun.
