How Jennifer Beals stole “Castle”
The premise for the non-criminal part of story is the idea that Beckett is not the first muse for Castle’s characters. About 12 years ago Sophia Turner was the inspiration for Clara Strike, a female CIA agent from Castle’s first series of novels about Derek Storm. Judging by the way Castle finds his inspiration, it appeared that they were close enough for him to base a book character on her. In one of her recent interviews Jennifer Beals confirmed that Castle and Sophia had professional as well as personal history. As Agent Turner put it, Castle “wanted an up-close and personal look at the life of a female CIA agent so I gave him one.”
So apart from watching Castle and Beckett solving murders and preventing the ‘world war III’, there is going to be another question for the fans of the show. As the show’s producer and writer Andrew Marlow said, if Beckett wasn’t Castle’s first muse then she “has to wrestle with where she thought she stood in Castle’s life and where she might really stand in Castle’s life. I think it’s natural in a situation like that to feel threatened to some extent, and to measure yourself up.” Marlow continued in his interview, “What Sophia meant to Castle at the time and whether or not it makes Beckett feel any less important in Castle’s life … those are questions that Beckett is trying to have answered without exposing her feelings too much.”
