Book of Eli – Film Review

Monday, January 11th, 2010

By B&TF

I have to say that I’m not an avid fan of “sci-fi/post-apocalyptic/end-of-the-world”-type of movies. I’d watch some here and there but it’s not my favorite genre. If it wasn’t for Jennifer Beals, I wouldn’t have gone to the pre–screening of “Book of Eli” though.

POWER UP Annual Premiere Awards 2009 – Part 2

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

By B&TF

Everyone was slowly gathering in the presentation room but the event hasn’t started yet so I had more time to interview more people. I saw Janina Gavankar sitting on the sofa and talking to her boyfriend, who was very nice and cute. He was very kind to talk to my friend while I interviewed Janina and later my friend told me that he asked her if he should come to Birmingham with Janina for L7. I joined Janina on the sofa and began our interview.

B&TF: So how have you been doing since the last time I saw you?

JG: I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head’s cut off and loving every second.

B&TF: I read your tweets all the time and you went to Greece, you’re on TV and in the movies…so tell me about your latest projects?

JG: Okay. I don’t know when I saw you last…

B&TF: I think it was in July or August.

JG: What was the last thing I shot? Three Rivers?

B&TF: No, you haven’t done Three Rivers yet. (more…)

POWER UP Annual Premiere Awards 2009 – Part 1

By B&TF

On November 1 I attended 9th Annual POWER UP Annual Premiere Awards honoring gay women and men in showbiz. The event was held at Social Hollywood Club in Los Angeles.

As POWER UP Founder and Executive Director Stacy Codikow said, “Each year, the Annual Power Premier and Gala recognizes companies and individuals who, through their artistic endeavor, have helped to shape public opinion and social growth … POWER UP also recognizes 10 gay women annually for their successes in showbiz.”

This year POWER UP recognized Megan Cavanagh, who you might know as Marla Hooch from League of Their Own, Exes & Oh’s, and several other TV shows; Angela Courtin, SVP of Marketing, Entertainment and Content for MySpace; Liz Feldman, a four-time Emmy award winning writer/producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, comedian and the host of This Just Out on AfterEllen; Sharon Isbin, Grammy award winner and classical guitarist; Carol Leifer, writer and producer for several TV shows, including Seinfeld; Harriet Newman Leve, a Toni award winning Broadway producer; Rachel Maddow, the host of critically acclaimed The Rachel Maddow Show; Kelly McGillis who needs no introduction; Susan Miller, the writer/executive producer of the web series Anyone But Me; and Patricia Resnick, the writer for such films as 9 to 5, A Wedding and Straight Talk.

This year awards were also extended to 10 gay men who are working, creating and changing lives with their work. This year list of nominees was amazing, and though, not all of them were able to make it to the Gala, I was able to meet most of the honorees.
